Omschrijving / Description Olieverf op doek. Op dit schilderij is een geblinddoekte vrouw afgebeeld. Ze is gekleed in de toga en klassieke witte bef van een (Nederlandse) advocaat en draagt de witte pruik (Barristers’ Wigg) van een advocaat uit het Verenigd Koninkrijk. De pruiken van witgrijs paardenhaar worden nu nog steeds gebruikt in het voormalige Engelse gemenebest (waaronder Sri Lanka, Oeganda, Ghana en Australië) en een aantal andere landen. Pruiken zouden bijdragen aan de onpartijdigheid van het juridische systeem. Het toekomstig gebruik van de pruik staat in sommige landen ter discussie. De blinddoek staat symbool voor de onpartijdigheid van vrouwe justitia.
Oil on cavas. This painting depicts a blindfolded woman. She is dressed in the toga and classic white bef of a (Dutch) lawyer and wears the white wig (Barristers' Wigg) of a lawyer from the United Kingdom. The white-gray horse-hair wigs are still used in the former Commonwealth of Nations (e.g. Sri Lanka, Uganda, Ghana, Australia) and a number of other countries. Wigs would contribute to the impartiality of the legal system. The future use of the wig is under discussion in some countries. The blindfold symbolizes the impartiality of Lady Justice.
