Omschrijving / Description Olieverf op doek. Dame met een Hermes tas vol met makrelen in een Parijse winkelstraat. De tas een is een zogenaamde Birkin bag. Een van de meest exclusieve tassen ter wereld. De goedkoopste kleine versie kost al gauw 10.000 euro anno 2023. De duurste Birkin bag is voor 437.000 dollar verkocht. De tas is vernoemd naar de Frans-Engelse actrice en zangeres Jane Birkin (1946-2023). Het verhaal achter de tas is dat de CEO van Hermes, Jean Louis Dumas, naast Jane Birkin in het vliegtuig was geplaatst. De tas die ze bij zich had puilde uit. Toen ze de tas in het compartiment boven de stoelen wilde plaatsen, rolden al haar spulletjes eruit. Ze vertelde aan Dumas dat de rieten mand die ze normaal bij zich had was overreden door een auto en dat ze nog geen fatsoenlijke tas had kunnen vinden. Ze zou graag zien dat Hermes een groter model zou maken van de Kelly bag. Dumas pakte de uitdaging op en kwam met de Birkin bag, die Jane Birkin ook heeft gebruikt.
